Privacy Policy for Walk/Run Challenge

Last updated: January 2026

1. Introduction

Walk/Run Challenge (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Walk/Run Challenge website and related services (the “Service”). Protecting your privacy—especially your fitness data—is a top priority. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how we protect it, and the choices you have.

2. Information We Collect

A. Information you provide directly

  • Account and profile data (such as name, email, and optional profile fields like height and stride length)
  • Credentials for local accounts (passwords are stored in hashed form)
  • Communications you send to us (support messages and related details)

B. Authentication information (social login)

If you sign in using a third-party provider (for example, Facebook Login), we may receive a provider user ID and basic profile details such as name and email (if provided by the provider and permitted by you).

C. Fitness & activity data (connected providers)

If you connect a fitness provider (e.g., Garmin, Fitbit, Strava), we may collect user-authorized fitness and activity data such as steps, distance, and activity summaries, including timestamps/dates. We only access data you authorize through that provider.

D. Technical and usage data

  • IP address, device type, browser type
  • Log and diagnostic data (such as error logs)
  • Usage analytics (pages visited, timestamps, and related interaction data)

3. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service
  • Authenticate users and protect accounts
  • Sync, display, and analyze fitness data you authorize
  • Prevent duplicates and detect data conflicts between providers
  • Improve features, performance, and user experience
  • Communicate with you about service updates, support requests, and security notices
  • Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, and security incidents

4. Data Deduplication & Conflict Resolution

Fitness providers may send overlapping data. To keep your history accurate:

  • Duplicate data from the same provider may be ignored or consolidated automatically.
  • Data conflicts between different providers for the same date may be flagged for review or resolution.
  • If a conflict is resolved, we may retain a record of that resolution so the same conflict is not repeatedly flagged.

5. Cookies and Session Technologies

We may use cookies and similar technologies to maintain sessions, enable security features (such as CSRF protection), and improve the experience. You can disable cookies in your browser, but some parts of the Service may not function properly.

6. Third-Party Services

We may use third-party services to operate the Service (e.g., hosting providers, authentication providers, fitness providers, analytics, and logging tools). These third parties process information under their own policies and are used to support core app functionality.

7. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls, and secure credential handling. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; however, we work to protect your data using industry-standard practices.

8. Data Retention

We retain information for as long as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. You may request deletion at any time (see “Your Rights” and our Data Deletion Policy).

9. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)

GDPR (EU/EEA)

  • Right of access
  • Right to rectification
  • Right to erasure
  • Right to restrict processing
  • Right to object to processing
  • Right to data portability

  • Right to request deletion
  • Right to opt out of sale (we do not sell personal data)

To exercise any rights, contact us using the information below. We may need to verify your identity before completing requests.

10. Children’s Privacy

The Service is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it.
